IAFT STUDENT PROJECT "ONE'S TEAR" MAKES INT'L FILM FEST CUT

Cebu, Philippines (Sep. 26, 2006) -If there are any tears being shed by IAFT student Ian Allen Lim, they are tears of joy. His student short film One's Tear has been selected as one of the 33 finalists in the International College Peace Film Festival (ICPFF).
Open to undergraduate students from different countries around the world, the ICPFF focuses on various interpretations of this year's theme, "peace". Thousands of entries from the United States, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, Germany, Spain, India, Mongolia, and Indonesia have been trimmed down to fifteen, which will be screened and judged on October 20-22, 2006, along with 18 other contenders from Korea. At stake are the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography & Editing, and Best Screenplay.

The 3-day festival will be held at the Hallym University Il-song Artshall in South Korea.

"If you've been to the movies lately you probably noticed that some of the best films are coming out of Asia," says IAFT Dean Douglas Hersh. "There's an energy here now like the energy of Hollywood in its heyday. Like Hollywood, sometimes it's sleek, sometimes it's raw, unexpected, violent and beautiful. Ian's film is the latter. It is also a testament to the expressiveness of a monochromatic palette and to Asia's ability to take the best from the west and make it its own."

Lim's entry to the competition is about a man whose life is torn apart by divorce. As he sits in a café, waiting for his family, he mulls over the possibility of seeing his daughter for the last time.

Lim initially enrolled in a 4-week intensive workshop on filmmaking at the IAFT in 2005. His final project, the short entitled The Coffeeshop , has enabled him to get work doing music videos for indie bands and documentaries for local TV stations. He is back at IAFT, currently enrolled in the One-Year Immersion Program in Filmmaking. Like most IAFT students, he aims to be a director, writer, and cinematographer.
